Getting To Know Me

I’m currently working full-time as an Instructional Design Technical Writer in corporate America. However, I’m very much interested in, and seriously considering, serving as an Instructional Designer in Higher Education with a focus on curriculum development.

The purpose of this portfolio is to display my varying skills and interests as an Instructional Designer.  I actually bring to the field a background in professional counseling, vast experience working in Higher Education, and various trainings, workshops and webinar creation.

I have completed an internship with the University of Tampa’s Educational Technology Department as well as an Instructional Design internship for Nielsen which is an International Research Marketing conglomerate. Both internships provided me an opportunity to further develop my professional skill, knowledge, and understanding of Instructional Design theory and practical application.

Additionally, I volunteer with the graduate chapter of my sorority including work with young, STEM program leaders of tomorrow.  I especially have an interest in encouraging minority women, of all ages, in STEM.

Academic Experience

MS Instructional Design & Technology

Fall 2015 - Fall 2018

The M.S. in Instructional Design and Technology addresses adult learning, training and development, in addition to human performance. It provides a multidisciplinary area of study that actually supports students from various professional disciplines and backgrounds. Instructional designers understand and utilize technology as both a product (e.g., Web-based courses) and a process (e.g., iterative and formative approaches to learner assessment). This graduate program offers me the flexibility to customize my course of study based on my individual goals and interests. As a graduates of the program, I will be well prepared to practice in a unique, multidisciplinary profession in a variety of settings. This includes corporate america, K-12 (private and public schools), higher education, government and military, or to pursue doctoral studies. Courses I've taken in the M.S. in Instructional Design and Technology program were offered in both a face-to face and hybrid format. As I wrap up the completion of my program I look forward to boasting about becoming a proud UT Alum!

BA African-American & African Studies, The Ohio State University

Fall 1991 - Spring 1998

The African American and African studies (AAAS) major informs students about the social, political, psychological, historical and intellectual experiences of Africans and their descendants throughout the world. This course of study typically prepares students for graduate-level work in African & African American Studies, history, sociology, political science, English, international affairs and other academic disciplines in the social sciences and humanities. As an Undergraduate student in this program I was able to learn about major African-American contributors to the development and building of the Americas and, Africa and the world. I learned of many great African as well as African-American writers from the likes of Chinua Achebe to Zora Neale Hurston. Much of the information I learned in this program was sadly the first introduction to a history that has been buried, hidden and misrepresented for centuries. My undergraduate experience was #PRICELESS
